Using Social Media (LinkedIn.com) To Advance Career

Social Media is vital to your career!
Social Media is a free tool for employers to find YOU!

The economy is affecting every aspect of our life and businesses. Companies are looking for ways to cut expenses, and Human Resource is always the first to get budget cuts. CareerBuilder.com and Monster.com as well as other job post and resume pool sites charge exorbitant fees to post jobs and to browse resumes. More and more professionals are utilizing sites such as LinkedIn.com to post resumes and browse jobs free of charge. Employers can also reap huge saving by utilizing social media to find you.

As a resume/CV preparation provider, I have had numerous clients hired by companies through their networking on LinkedIn.com. Corporation HR departments are joining and using the site to both "post jobs" and to browse the available talent. This dynamic networking site is saving companies thousands of dollars annually.

This is definitely not a dog and pony show! You must get your resume/CV in top shape to properly portray your career and expertise. Even if you are "not looking" for a new career or advancement it is very important to keep your options open. Companies are closing unexpectedly across the world. This is not just an American recession. Writefromthebeginning has clients all around the world and the word from those clients is the same, job are getting harder and harder to find.

Do the resume litmus test on your resume/CV.
  • Has your contact information changed
  • Have you completed any higher education/received a degree
  • Has your employer changed
  • Have you been trained in new skills
  • Are you now managing others
  • Does your resume/CV properly reflect your expertise
  • Is your resume/CV passing the scanning process for "key words"
  • Does your resume scream entry level while you are middle management or C-level
  • Is your resume visually appealing
  • Are you still hung up on having a "one page resume/CV"
If you answered yes to even one of these questions you may need the services of a professional to update and rejuvenate your resume/CV. Contact writefromthebeginning or join me via Skype at teresad77 to discuss the possibilities of taking your career to a higher level.

What makes a resume stand out?

I have produced hundreds of resumes and I interview each person extensively to find out where they want to take their career path and almost always the client will tell me "they want their resume to stand out" or "I want to shine".

The first, most important resume building fact I can tell you is, it must be written with "key words" directly related to the job position you are applying for. Today's resumes are not initially "proofed" by human eyes. They are scanned to match the "key words" listed in the job post and job description. Yes, educational qualification do play a factor, but without those "key words" you resume will hit the virtual file 13! I always request two to three job post from the client that they feel they could apply for. I then review those job post for the typical "key words" that are either redundant or listed near the top of the job post. I always pepper those "key words" into the new resume.

The next most important resume building fact is to make sure you claim your higher education near the top, regardless if your major is irrelevant. This degree was awarded to you for your dedication and hard work to complete a complex series of classes in order to receive this acclaimation. Almost any degree can be conformed to be somewhat relateable to your preference in career choices. Having a copy of your transcripts handy is alway a huge plus!

Next, get expert assistance or advice to construct this award winning "make you shine" resume. It is usually better to have someone with an objective eye and human resource experience to create your resume package. A great resume expert is worth every penny! Let me back up a just a bit and explain what I mean by a resume package. If you are just attaching a resume to every electronic job post, you are literally dumping your resume into a virtual cesspool of resumes from people with no experience related to the job post to airline pilots! Make sure your resume directly reflects what the employer is asking for and go the extra step to make yourself more professional and be an example of a detail oriented person by submitting a resume package. This includes of course the "resume", a carefully and concisely written "cover letter" and a "professional biography".

Most people find it very difficult to write objectively about themselves and this is why I always recommend having a professional resume expert to craft your resume. Today, if I needed to update my resume, even though I am an expert in this field, I would hire someone else to craft my story. Why? Because even I cannot write objectively and produce a resume package about myself that would clearly define me as others would. What I might find relevant and important may not be as vital to an outsider or a Human Resources Professional.

There are resume writers out there that charge very little to craft a resume but I would be very careful with who you chose to write your future. How much is that worth to you? Do you want a fast typist or a resume surgeon?

Contact me if I can be of any assistance. I write resume and CV packages for individuals all over the world in every legal and legitimate profession.

Happy hunting!

Becoming an engaging employee

Are you an engaging employee? Do you have a heart for the job you do? Let's analyze why? Are you doing what you are passionate about? Are you just making a living? Barely? Realistically? In a world of materialism, has your need for "things" driven you to have to work more? Maybe a look at your personal and professional goals for 5 and 10 years is in order. Let me help you become an engaging productive employee by releasing the hounds that eat away at your rest and drag you down to the point you feel antagonistic toward your work or boss.

There are many "things" internally and externally that affect our performance and the relationship you have in a profession you have chosen. Are you scared because of the economic condition of the world today that you should "just stick with what you have"? It is a scary and unpredictable environment in which we all live. But we must begin early thinking of working in something you are passionate about and that you enjoy doing. Why? Because, while you are young, old age seems like a time way off in the future, and working in a position that drains you mentally, physically, and emotionally. Time will pass you by quickly! It is proven fact that you will age faster and your health will be affected. It is a stressful and unrewarding to be "stuck".

Let' me help you change that. Email me today to evaluate what is really the root of your disengagement.~ T
